Yupo

Yupo is a synthetic acid-free "paper" with a smooth hard finish. It resembles a piece of plastic, rather than a piece of paper. It resists tearing and it does not buckle; it is a beautiful bright white, and is very durable.

The beauty of yupo, is that watercolor paint simply floats on the surface allowing the artist to create a natural free-flowing, vibrant, textural painting. You can expect all kinds of suprises, because the surface acyually resists water, so the watercolor paint flows across the yupo surface, creating lovely abstract patterns and translucent colors.

Although it is possible to draw directly onto this type of surface, the drawing marks that you make will not always be controllable. The fun here, is in allowing the paint and the sponeneity of the paint's own movements the right to create the idea.

On Yupo, paint can be wiped down, or completely erased when desired. Paint can be reapplied, sprayed on, and textured. Quite literally, anything goes when using Yupo!

Giclee
A giclee, pronounced (zhee-CLAY), is an individually produced, high-resolution, high-fidelity reproduction done on a special large format printer. Giclees are produced from digital scans of existing artwork. Colors in a Giclee print are so vibrant and true that it is often mistaken for the original artwork.

Crinkle Technique

The "Crinkle Technique" is a simple method of creating a naturally textured watercolor painting that closely resembles trees, leaves, branches, grass, foliage, and many other highly textured subjects. A technique taught by the renown watercolor artist, Cheng -Khee Chee, AWS, where masa paper (oriental paper with a wax coating on one side) is dipped into water and it is then gently squeezed out with your hands, breaking up the wax coating.

When watercolor is painted over the smoothed out surface, it will fill in the "cracks" producing a naturally textured or "crinkled" effect.
